Revolutionizing Radiation Safety: IKOMED Technologies’ AEGIS System Presented at SPIE Medical Imaging Conference

Vancouver, BC, February 3, 2021
IKOMED Technologies Inc. a developer of medical devices, will be presenting a paper at this year’s International Society for Optics and Photonics (SPIE) Medical Imaging conference. The five-day event starting Monday February 15th will be held online this year due to COVID-19 and is attended by leading researchers in image processing, physics, computer-aided diagnosis, perception, image-guided procedures, biomedical applications, ultrasound, informatics, radiology and digital pathology.

The paper, entitled “Automatic Detection and Tracking of the Region of Interest During Fluoroscopy-Guided Procedures for Radiation Exposure Reduction,” describes the Artificial Intelligence (AI) component of IKOMED’s AEGIS system that combines a fast electro-mechanical shutter, AI and image processing, and which was clinically proven to reduce X-ray radiation by >60% without degrading image quality. The system was cleared by the FDA and is marketed in the US as FluoroShieldTM by Omega Medical Imaging LLC.
